Tell us about you! Where were you born, what do you enjoy in your free time?
I was born on a cold December evening near Saratoga, New York. I spent the first 10 years of my life in that area until our family moved to Orlando, FL. The next 30 years of my life were spent in the heat, and humidity in Florida. In late 2017, my wife Kristen, and I packed up our then 2-year-old daughter Willow and moved to Buford.
When and how did you become a part of Mark Spain Real Estate?
When we were looking for our home during our relocation from Florida, our realtor and friend Chris referred us to Mark Spain Real Estate. Eliza Pritchett was our buyer agent, and I was so blown away by her professionalism and how she helped us. I knew I would have to interview with Mark Spain Real Estate after I passed my test and our move was finalized.
How long have you been involved in real estate and where?
I originally got my license around 2000 in Orlando, and, like all young realtors at that time, I went into the timeshare part of the industry. I am thankful for the experience I received, but after 2 years and not fully being behind the product I was selling, I left real estate and went back to performing at Universal Studios. In 2017, I got my Georgia real estate license as we prepared for our move to Buford.
Why Mark Spain Real Estate?
As I said earlier, Eliza Pritchett was such a great ambassador for Mark Spain Real Estate. I thought if everyone is as friendly, personable, and half the agent she is, I’ll be in good company. The cherry on top for me was in early December 2017 when I was listening to 104.7 The Fish. Mark did a spot about the Christmas Fish wish, and I realized he was someone who walked his talk about leading with a servant’s heart and giving back to the community. After I heard that spot, I knew there wasn’t any other agency for me.
What is your favorite part about the people you work with?
We have some of the most supportive, giving, fun-loving people I’ve ever had the privilege of working beside. We dig in when needed, push, and compete with each other. At the end of the day, we know it’s a safe environment to learn, grow and experience, and overcome new challenges as individuals, all while understanding we have a rockstar team who always has our back!
What have you learned the most from working at Mark Spain Real Estate?
Real Estate can be fun if you let it. It’s hard work, but you will get out what you put in. If you allow yourself to find the fun, joyous opportunities, there’s a lot to laugh and smile about throughout the day.
What are your passions in life outside of work?
My family is first and foremost. Willow is our only child and will be turning 6 in February. We try to take as many walks or hiking day trips as a family to make sure we get as much family time together as possible. My wife Kristen, and I are also both artists, and that is not something you just “turn off”. It’s a part of you! Whether through writing, painting, coloring, acting, whatever it may be, we try to find creative outlets daily.
What is a hidden talent you have?
Those who know me know I like to laugh and joke, but I think some of my writing might be surprising. I write poetry, essays, and journal. I also do a pretty mean Donkey from Shrek voice.
Who inspires you in life?
My mom and dad. I don’t think I truly appreciated them and their sacrifices for myself, my brother, and my sister growing up until we had Willow. They busted their butts to make sure we always had a fun and supportive home life. They found ways to take some sort of vacation every year. It’s not until you start juggling life, and what that entails, that you can truly reflect on what your parents may have done for you.
Tell us about the friendships you’ve made at Mark Spain Real Estate.
Steve Kaman and Brantley Evans to this day some of my greatest friends. We went through training together, and are still remembered as the group who came of out training and spent 3 weeks locked in a conference room in Alpharetta. We were learning, asking questions, and working through contracts together.
What are you looking forward to this year?
Continued growth, learning, and laughter. While my title has recently changed, my role remains the same. I will continue to support, be available, brainstorm, question, have serious conversations when needed, and keep the mood light and relaxed when I can for our team. I will provide assistance and guidance to make sure our agents have the tools they need to accomplish their goals. Additionally, I look forward to being able to continue to grow in my new role. I appreciate the trust, guidance, and support John, Cindy, Lisa, and the entire leadership team have shown me and continue to exhibit. I’m looking forward to being a small part of this great organization and setting new high points of achievement as our team continues to be a beacon of excellence.
From the team:
Michael is such an awesome partner to work alongside. He really sets the bar high for bringing the energy, enthusiasm, and motivation for our team! His coaching style is amazing with the agents, helping them to grow, learn, and hold themselves accountable to results. The Buford Eagles are where they are today because of Michael pouring into them! I couldn’t do it without him! – Lisa Comb, Buford Director of Sales
