How to Maintain Cleanliness of Your Home
Create a Nightly Checklist
One would assume that when you spend hours, or even days, getting your home perfectly curated to your standards, you would want to keep it that way. But, with children and pets involved, that may not be feasible. This is why we advise creating a small checklist to run through each night to ensure you wake up to a clean oasis each morning! Here are some of the top items we recommend placing on this list:
- Putting all dirty dishes in the dishwasher and running it. In the morning, put away all of the clean dishes so you have a clean slate to place new dirty dishes in throughout the day.
- Wiping down all counter spaces
- Place all dirty clothes in the hamper, separating the lights from the darks for an easier clean.
- Put up all blankets and pillows in the living room
- Place all toys in the correct place
Forming Good Habits
We also suggest forming habits around cleaning up right after you do something. When you are finished cooking, go ahead and start the cleaning process so your utensils are not lingering while you and your family eat. Oftentimes, you want to rest after eating and not have to worry so much about cleaning. Other examples of forming good habits to maintain the cleanliness of your home include making your bed every morning, putting away your clothes right after they are cleaned, and eating in designated areas like the kitchen.
It is also really important to instill these habits so your children will pick them up in the future. They will strive to maintain the cleanliness of your home, becoming second nature to them. Once they become older, they will form these habits in their own households.
Organization
Having a space for everything will also support your goals to maintain the cleanliness of your home. When something does not have a specific box or place, it is easy to get left around. For example, when your children do not have a designated space for their bicycle, they will leave it around the yard or in places it shouldn’t be.
Organization is key when it comes to the cleanliness of your home. Not only will it look nice, but you will feel good and less stressed throughout the day. It is proven that your environment plays a major role in your mood and productivity!
