Successful Dads in the Workplace
By Mark Spain Real Estate
Since Father’s Day is this Sunday, the Mark Spain Real Estate team would like to celebrate all of the dedicated dads in the workplace who are successful at work and who give their all at home and to our company! Our team members work hard both in and out of the office. Today, we want to say thank you and happy Father’s Day to all the hard-working Fathers in each of our offices. We asked a few of the hardworking dads at Mark Spain Real Estate to share advise about being a dad and having a successful career, too.
Koji Krzywosz:
Koji is an exclusive listing agent out of our Charlotte office. He and his wife, Erica, have 2 children, named Jack-Kayden and Olivia. Koji also has another little boy named Kai from a previous marriage.
What advice do you have for dads to constantly grow and improve while being a great dad, too?
Honestly, it is a work in progress. Every day brings new challenges and situations that you can’t really plan. So my biggest thing is to be flexible. Also remember to treat your family outings as an appointment. When I am with my clients, I might not answer the phone for 2 hours, and I should be able to do the same for with my family.
How has being a dad and being successful in your career made you into who you are today?
Sometimes it’s easy to take things for granted especially your family but that is really the driving force behind why many of us work as hard as we do. We want to be the best. I love the look on my son’s face when I show him an award that I have received. I want to be great not just for me but for them, too!
Robert Mason:
Robert is an exclusive listing agent out of our Charlotte office. He has been married for nine years to his wife, Alexandria, and they have two sons, Reuben who is 8, and Roland who is 6. Robert and his family live in East Charlotte.
What advice do you have for dads to constantly grow and improve while being a great dad, too?
There’s nothing like coming home and opening the door to my house and having my sons run and jump on me, after a day of work. So, the only way I can be great outside of the home is being great at home as well. Treating every moment like it’s my last. If this is the last house I get to sell or the last time I get to play hide and seek, I’m going to do it to the best of my ability.
How has being a dad and being successful in your career made you into who you are today?
Being a father pushed me to be great. It’s easy to only care for yourself, but when a child is looking at you like a superhero, failure is not an option. Having two boys who think they can beat me at everything keeps me sharp as well. So, if I can get an 8 year old to understand our guaranteed offer options, I should have no problems explaining it to a 50 year old home owner. I am nothing without my wife and sons. They help create the man this world sees today.
Scott Millen:
Scott is an exclusive listing agent out of our Marietta, Georgia office. He has a son named Hayden who is 12 and a daughter named Abby who is 9.
What advice do you have for dads to constantly grow and improve while being a great dad, too?
Dads in the workplace have to balance their work and home lives to be successful. It’s important to make time for family every day. I make sure we have dinner together every night. We all spend time together after dinner, we go on walks, play baseball, etc. My family is great and encourages me and supports my goals at work. They give me dedicated time to focus on my career development and encourage me to keep me in a positive mindset.
How has being a dad and being successful in your career made you into who you are today?
Being successful in my career has given me the ability to provide my children with memorable family experiences that they will cherish and traditions they will carry on as they become parents. I work hard, so they can see the value of pursuing goals and providing for family.
Mark Spain:
Mark is the CEO of Mark Spain Real Estate and is married with 4 daughters and 1 son.
What advice do you have for dads to constantly grow and improve while being a great dad, too?
The best advice I have for successful fathers in the workplace is to be the best example of who they want their children to be. Kids learn what they live…not what they are told. That’s a lot of responsibility and needs to be taken seriously. Show your kids that having good habits pays dividends. Show them that getting up early, starting your day with exercise, and eating healthy pays off in the long run. Encourage them to be reading books and to study. These habits pay off when you get the promotions and pay raises and you become more valuable to your company. Let them know that to get ahead you have to do the work, you have to be smart, and sometimes you have to make sacrifices. Teach them that saving money and staying out of debt is a better path, which means at times you have to say no to things. Being a parent is the most rewarding job in the entire universe…it’s the absolute hardest, but definitely the most rewarding. The most important part about being a dad is that you must block time with your kids into your schedule. Kids spell love with time. Make sure you are spending time with them by doing the things they love…not what you love. That’s how you build a lasting bond with them.
